Every restroom plan starts with two numbers: expected peak attendance and total event duration. A four-hour ceremony for 100 guests is a very different rental from a two-day festival for 3,000. Multiply headcount by hours and use the resulting person-hours to select unit counts. For long events, remember that peak demand hits around break times, not evenly across the day.
Beer gardens, wine service, and hot summer weather all drive higher usage. Add 20–30% capacity for events with open bars and another 10–15% for temperatures above 85°F. Coffee-heavy morning events (weddings with brunch, corporate breakfasts) see the same lift. Under-ordering here is the single most common cause of long restroom lines.
Restroom banks should be visible enough to find but not visible from the ceremony stage, first-look photo spot, or dinner service. A short walk — 100 feet or so — is ideal. Avoid placing units directly downwind of food service, dance floors, or lounge seating. For evening events, provide task-height lighting near the bank so guests can walk safely from dinner to units and back.
At least one ADA-compliant unit per bank is best practice for any public-facing event. Family-friendly events benefit from at least one large unit that can accommodate a parent helping a small child. Luxury trailers with interior stalls handle both accessibility and family needs elegantly.
Add a handwashing station beside every bank of three or more units. Post short signage — no more than three lines — reminding guests to wash and to report supply outages to the coordinator. During flu and cold seasons, hand-sanitizer stations at entry, near buffets, and at exits meaningfully cut post-event illness reports.
